Organiser's Comments about the Weekend

2 races, 2 starts, 2 finishes, 2 downloads, a chasing start, 2 road crossings, sheep, 'orrible weather = not your ideal introduction to organising an orienteering event. As such a small club, we were never going to pull off an event like this without masses of help. So to the thanyou's.......

SYO in general for general advice and use of equipment- the only thing ShUOC provided was the incredible Cake Stall tent. Martin Ward, what a legend! Not only did he do all the SI programming, but he did with a hangover from his 21st Birthday party the night before. Thanks also to Mike Napier who wrote some new software just for this event. The new map is incredible- Oli spent weeks running around finding bushes and I think you'll agree he has put them all in the correct place. The ISSOM standard was a brainwave from Oli and many competitors commented how great the new map was. Matt Dickinson planned some awesome courses with a variety of challenging legs. Charlie Adams was a very efficient controller and kept the organisation ticking over nicely. Many thanks to Phil Haywood for pulling the portaloo truck out of the car park field, I suppose 4 x 4s do have a use afterall. Thanks also go to DVO for allowing us to pair our event with the national and putting an advert on their website. Apologies if I have missed out anyone.

Finally thanks to you, the competitors, for coming to the event. I think in the end we had about 204 entries and to put that into perspective, the JOK chasing sprint had 179 earlier this year. To 'beat' an established annual event in the first year of running an event is, in my mind, a significant achievement. Watch this space as to whether we will put it on again next year ........

I think we pulled off the event pretty well and i'd like to think the mistakes made on the day were down to weather rather than negligence by ourselves. I take full responsibility for having no control descriptions at the chase start, thanks for not moaning! Other notable cock-ups include the portaloo truck getting stuck and the sheep nearly escaping from the field. I apologize about the weather, maybe summer is a more appropriate time to put an event like this on. I have a lot of respect for everyone who came out to run the chase in the conditions, thanks a lot.

In summary, thanks to everyone who helped!
